NHS England is launching its sixth consecutive annual workforce recruitment campaign ‘We are the NHS’ this October 2023.

Recruitment for the NHS has never been more vital. The future of England’s health and social care system relies on its people, and having enough staff is essential to delivering the best possible care for patients.

UCAS Clearing is a great opportunity to re-think your options. If you’re having second thoughts after results day, a nursing or midwifery degree could open up a new world of possibilities.

If you’re unsure of your next steps after results day and want to end up in a job with impact, a career in the NHS gives you the opportunity to make a real difference in people’s lives.

It's not too late. You can still apply to study nursing and midwifery at a range of universities through UCAS clearing.

University isn’t for everyone. If you’re leaving education and want to gain practical on-the-job experience that makes a real difference, the Healthcare Support Worker or Maternity Support Worker role could be for you.

Nursing:

Studying a nursing degree will open you up to a whole world of possibilities, with a rewarding role that has more than 50 different specialisms including mental health, learning disabilities, surgery and neonatal nursing.

A nursing degree offers exciting and hands-on training via a range of placements while you learn, giving you the opportunity to make a real difference in people’s lives.

Those who choose to attend university to study nursing could be eligible for the NHS Learning Support Fund, which will guarantee a grant of £5,000 a year, as well as specialist payments for studying mental health or learning disability nursing.

Midwifery:

Studying midwifery means you could be on track to one of the most unique, rewarding and important jobs – helping bring new life into the world.

A midwifery degree offers hands-on training where you’ll be able to make a difference through a range of different placements while you are learning.

Eligible students can also receive a £5,000 training grant to support their studies as part of a wider package of financial support.
