International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia & Biphobia
BCHC joins the world in celebrating International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia.
May 17th is a worldwide celebration of sexual and gender diversity.
Since 2005, May 17th has been dedicated to the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia, marking the day in 1990 when the World Health Organisation (WHO) removed homosexuality as a mental disorder. In 2009 transphobia was added to the campaign, with biphobia also being added in 2015.
The main purpose of May 17th is to raise awareness of violence, discrimination and repression of LGBT communities worldwide.
The theme of this years celebration is we stand "Together: Resisting, Supporting, Healing!" - a message chosen as we all work hard together in continuing to overcome the Covid19 pandemic.
